Basel, Bern or Zurich, Swiss Christmas markets are famous across the world. Basel is particularly famous and attracts tourist from across Switzerland and other parts of the world. The open air marketplaces in Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz are very famous.
The river city dotted with galleries and museums attracts tourists from all over the world. This happens to be one of Switzerland’s largest open air Christmas markets.The market begins as early as November 27th and goes on till December 23rd. The market mushrooms up near the Basel Church and enlivens the entire Old Town. Illuminated wooden stalls come up all over the place. They display the most jazzy and amazing X Mas ornaments and wares. You’ll get everything here, food, wine, decorations and entertainment galore. About 100 tall pine trees that line the longest street in Basel is decorated with fairy lights. The entire ambience is that of a grand festival. Each year the market fair is grander and jazzier.
Münsterplatz Christmas Market
The entire ambience and air is just like that as in the Barfüsserplatz Christmas Market. This again is Basels X Mas highlight! Families, children, teens and the old throng the open air stalls in November and December. The grand Christmas tree right in front of the Munster Cathedral is a major attraction. The ‘Marcenwald’ for kids is a special annual attraction.
