Humorous Christmas Carols |
I wonder whether it would be considered a sin, in the real Christian sense of the term, if we dare to deviate from the routine and do a little bit of experimentation with our favorite Christmas carols. Christmas Carols are as old as the hills (Something older than them is not to my knowledge).
Christmas is a time for jubilation, fun, frolic and merriment. A light, festive, holiday mood is a natural corollary to this.

But though we greet Christmas with great fun, not always do we beam at the very prospect of having to sing the same old Carols, which we have been singing right from the time we have gotten to know about Christ and he being our almighty God, the Creator.
The very thought of taking carols in a light spirit, might be regarded as derogatory to many. Christ will turn in his Grave –they say. But humor does spice up our lives and once in a while it's probably pardonable. But lets not make it a rule rather than an exception. Cheap thrills should never be encouraged.
Surprisingly, humorous Christmas carols are not a recent phenomenon. They have a longer lineage. Far back in time, the gypsies and the vagabonds indulged in similar pursuits but they were essentially sung as critiques of the all-pervasive ecclesiastical order that tried to exert its influence in all matters of statecraft. Times have changed. The once unthinkable acts and deeds are no longer considered a grave offence as people have turned more liberal and flexible. But it would be worthwhile to remember the popular proverb that says-Too much of anything is bad.
