Quilted Christmas Stockings can be a good pre-Christmas exercise for kids to keep them engaged. The simple designs of patchwork look really stunning on the Christmas stockings.
How to make a quilted Christmas Stockings
- The color of the quilts and fabrics can be bought according to ones choice. The quilted Christmas stockings can also be given as gifts to the guests. It can also be good source of Christmas decoration.
- The fabrics used for making quilt stockings should preferably be cotton. Quilted Christmas stocking looks best when they are big. The colors chosen should be bold or can also have a Christmas motive of white, red and black.
- The pieces of fabrics should be sewed together with two layers in the front and one at the back. It would be helpful if you can make a paper layout of the stocking before starting off. It can be done by copying a sock or a stocking on paper. The strips of clothes should be cut and sewed giving it a shape of a sock.
- The basic job is to give it an "L" shape. Appliqué work can be done even to adorn the stockings. The stitches can be broad so that the stocking looks patchier and therefore more attractive. The ankle and toes should be highlighted to give it more appeal.
- Quilted Christmas stockings can also be bought in the stores and also online. But it is always better to hand make it and personalize it.
- As far as textures, feel and fabrics are concerned a little bit of experimentation would do more good than harm. Felts, Brocades, fleece, Velvets and Satin are the most commonly used materials.
- Satin, Chain and herringbone stitches are ideal for defining the margins while the body and the cuffs look pretty if embellished with appliqués, laces and light motifs.
- For a more deluxe look, line the cuff with fur and fill in your initials engraved on the cuff with beads, sequins and crystals or simply attach pompoms and tassels to lend it a more playful look.
