For those that love the holiday season, getting married during the festive period is almost a necessity. Combining your big day with the most wonderful time of the year is a lot of fun, but finding Christmas wedding dresses can be a challenge. Many of the other tasks are made much easier – decorating, for one, can be tailored to fit the lights and wreaths already on display. Getting the perfect gown already takes some time, but how much more will it take to find one that blends well with the holiday? Will you have to end up dressing like Mrs. Claus?

How much “Christmas” do you want?
You might be thinking about an understated bit of red trim along the edges of your dress or, if you really want to get into the spirit, you might opt for a bright green gown with red shoes. If you’d like to do something other than the traditional white without being too off the wall, consider a satiny silver material. You’ll look sleek and stylish while bringing in some of the elegance of the finest Christmas gifts. The final call is up to you, just keep in mind the day will be remembered in photographs for the rest of your life.
Where is your reception going to be hosted?
It might seem strange to think about the dress having to match up with a venue, but it is something to consider. Will the area be fairly dark? A bride (or bridesmaids, for that matter) in a darker color might be hard to find when the lights get low. Granted, it might be tough for you to escape the attention of a throng of guests, but you would hate to hear later that one of your great aunts was unable to see you – especially if you remember standing right beside her.
Could the weather be a factor?
Those living in the upper reaches of the northern hemisphere have to keep the possibility of weather conditions in mind. It would be terrible to be frozen like a popsicle when the doors are opened for your grand exit. The idea of a long-sleeved dress disappeared in the early ‘90s, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have your husband drape a luxurious fur wrap over your shoulders for those moments you are outside. And, if you are planning to travel by horse-drawn carriage, have a heavy blanket waiting for you in the seat.
What do you have in mind?
Ultimately, the thing that matters most is that you are thrilled to be a bride when the day arrives. If that means you are wearing a red dress with Christmas lights strung through the veil, that is perfectly fine. Chances are good you’ve spent years dreaming of this day, so be willing to tell everyone exactly how you want things to be – they aren’t the ones getting hitched!
