Christmas Winter Mornings |
Awake to the sound of the church bell and that tinkling in your house, when the tree is shaken. With the sun shining full on your face, this dawn is a cut above the rest for it heralds festivity and good cheer. Christmas Carnivals is here with Christmas Winter mornings.
The quintessential Christmas morning begins with attendance at the church and is followed by an exchange of good tidings and gifts. Christmas winter mornings remind you of the American poet, William Augustine Ogden (1841 - 1897), who wrote a poem called "On a Christmas morning".
Here is an extract from the poem:
"What is the song the angels sing?
Sweetly sing, gladly sing;
What is the song the angels sing,
On a Christmas morning?
O, "Peace on earth," the angels sing,
Sweetly sing, gladly sing,
O, "Peace on earth," the angels sing,
On a Christmas morning."
Don Ensminger wrote, on a winter morning during Christmas, with the fire not burning, he sits engrossed in déjà vu, with thoughts of his childhood. The poet imagines himself leaving for the hills on a truck, leaving behind his beloved in the plains of snow. He has not returned since, and on days when the fire is not burning either, he is lost in the maze of his thoughts for her. The children play in the lush green meadows, while he builds a giant snowman and kisses his sun-burnt beloved. It’s Christmas time again in the following year, when the poet learns that his love has expired the previous spring.
