Three Wise Men are known to be the three men from the east who came to visit Lord Jesus in manger. They were educated and men of noble birth. They recognized the star carrying Messianic prophetic implications. They started their journey towards Bethlehem to meet Jesus with three beautiful gifts known as three wise men gifts.
The star of Bethlehem directed the Magi to the manger of the baby Jesus. They bowed down before the Lord and offered him their treasured gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
The three wise men gifts carry the following prophetic implications:
- Gold - This term denotes royalty, a king. Daniel refers to the coming of Messiah as prince. Gold was the perfect gift for a prince.
- Frankincense-God stipulated in Exodus that frankincense was to be prepared for the purpose of sacrificial fumigation. The priests also used it during the regular service in the Temple. Therefore, this frankincense gift could also point to Jesus Christ as the ultimate High Priestly, an office that He assumed after His ascension into Heaven.
- Myrrh--The Jews used Myrrh for embalming bodies for burial preparation.
It is extremely interesting that two (Myrrh and Frankincense) of the three wise men gifts related to Jesus death and burial. The Daniel prophecy contained all the information that the Magi needed to know to bring these gifts. They studied this prophecy entirely and knew exactly the kind of gifts to bring
