The Chipmunks are a fictional music group founded by Ross Bagdasarian in 1958. It comprises 3 singing monkeys namely Alvin,
the troublemaker and star of the group, Simon the spectacled thinker and Theodore, the plump charming thing.
The 3 Musketeers are managed by their father David Dave Seville which, in fact, is Ross Bagdasarian's stage name.
The Chipmunks first officially appeared in a novelty record that was released late in the fall in 1958. Earlier known as "The Chipmunk Song", it was later subtitled "Christmas don't be late". The song contained the singing skills of the awesome threesome. The record sold more than 4 million copies in 7 weeks and set the career of the Chipmunks on a firm foundation forever. The song remained uncontested in the Billboard charts from December 1958 to January 1959, winning a Grammy and a nomination for the Record of the Year. Bagdasarian and his Chipmunks even appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show to sing the song.
