Zimbabwe is a southern African country. It is situated between South Africa and Zambia. Like the other countries in southern Africa, Christmas in Zimbabwe falls in the summer season.
Therefore the concept of having a long bleak cold day with a white Christmas is not present,
but the Zimbabweans have their native touches to this important festival.
Fellowship plays an important part in Christmas in Zimbabwe. Kisimusi, or Christmas is celebrated with great passion. Fathers give gifts to their children and husbands to their wives, which are normally clothes and candy.
Food is an important aspect of Christmas in Zimbabwe. Starting weeks in advance, everyone starts to prepare for the grand Christmas feast. At the early morning church service, the children sing the songs that they have practiced for this special day.
Sometimes a feast is held for the members of the church. This meal is served at one home. The women take turns preparing the food so that they all have a chance to attend the service. Usually the menu includes fresh roast ox or goat, cornmeal porridge, bread, jam, tea, and sugar. After the dinner, they all sit, relax, and sing gospel songs. The minister may even give an informal sermon to try to win more souls to Christ.
As the sun goes down, herd boys return to their flocks and children play games around the fire. Zimbabwe spends Christmas in a quite and dignified manner remembering the Lord and his message of peace and love. For more, stay connected to
