Independence Day in Boston

Boston is an important centre of American Independence Day celebrations. The town holds the distinction of having celebrated the event ever since 1789; and that was way before the Congress declared 4th of July as a Federal holiday. The town has an emotional connect with the American Revolution, it was the site of the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party; both events having played a crucial role in American independence.

Boston and Philadelphia were infact among the first American states that celebrated the first anniversary of the ‘Declaration of Independence’ with bonfires, fireworks and victory processions. It is over the years that the tradition of fireworks and music concerts spread to other parts of America.

Bostonians are all set to celebrate the 238th Independence Day with events, picnics, and fireworks.

  • Tune in to WBZ-TV Boston that’ll telecast the spectacular display of the Boston Pops Fireworks. Enjoy music concerts and the traditional Sudbury’s parade; the procession forms on the Union Avenue later in the afternoon.

  • The NARA Park is yet another venue that hosts annual patriotic events for families and children. The music concert is famous and draws crowds from all walks of life. The New Bedford Folk festival is a must visit for families.

  • Fireworks over the Hingham Harbour are a must watch.

  • The Parades at Barnstable Village and Provincetown are colourful representations of patriotic fervour.
