Addie wins a Christmas tree at school but has to get rid of it at the last moment due to her father's indifference. The presence of the Christmas tree makes her father upset and both failed to understand each other's feelings. The writer sketches the character of Addie as a typical young girl while her father an extremely human figure depressed with the feelings of his dead wife. The characters are well developed and leave a mark on your heart. The writer has truly done justice to Addie and her lonely life.
