Christmas Parade of Lights |
Christmas parades are remarkable for their fabulous display of lights. One of the largest Christmas parades is held in Oklahoma (USA). It is an evening parade in which all the floats are adorned with lights and helium balloons. Dance squads shimmer and shine as they dance their way through the entire parade route.
Louisiana's community based Christmas Celebration or Natchitoches Christmas Festival is held annually on the first Saturday in December. Gigantic parades, star studded live shows and a spectacular firework show mark the occasion. It came first on the mind of the late Max Burgdorf to develop a street and river lighting program as a means of expressing the holiday feeling. The first set piece built by Burgdorf was the Star of the East, measuring eight feet across. The star still remains as a fixture in the lighting program. Throughout the month of December, over 300,000 brightly colored Christmas lights and 77 huge set pieces light the city along the scenic Cane River Lake. The lights reflect in the waters below and stretch along the historic downtown area.
Carol Ships Parade of Lights Society displays their parade light show on boats floating over Coal Harbor off the Bay Shore. At present there are more than 80 decorated boats, with spectacular 150,000 lights. The boats carry over 45,000 people during the Christmas parades.
