Can you imagine having food without the dessert to accompany the course in the end? Surf Christmas Carnivals for information on Christmas Dessert Recipes. A dessert is a course that typically comes at the end of a dinner, usually consisting of sweet food. It is French for desservir that is "to clear the table".
Some cultures - like the Chinese - do not have a separate final sweet course but mix sweet and savory dishes throughout the meal.
For a Chocolate Raspberry Pie, use an unbaked pastry shell, sugar and corn-starch, fresh or frozen thawed unsweetened raspberries. For the Filling, go in for cream cheese - softened, vanilla extract and whipping cream. The topping comprises semisweet chocolate and butter or margarine. Prepare the dish with lining the unpicked pastry shell with a double thickness of foil. Bake at high temperature for a short while. Remove foil. Bake for some time more. Cool on a wire rack. In a saucepan, combine sugar and cornstarch. Stir in the raspberries; bring to a boil over medium heat. Boil and stir. Remove from the heat and cool. Spread into shell; refrigerate. In a mixing bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar and vanilla until fluffy. Fold in whipped cream. Carefully spread over raspberry layer. Cover and refrigerate for a least an hour. Melt chocolate and butter; cool. Pour over filling. Cover and chill for at least a couple of hours. Store the end product in the refrigerator to yield 6-8 servings.
