Strangely enough, Chipmunks are a fictional musical band, created by Ross Bagdasarian in 1958.
They are a three member team comprising of Alvin, the mischevious one, supposedly the hero of the band, to whom ideas strike like lightning and when they do, there is no turning back (quite pampered by his dad) the intellectual Simon and the chubby and ever bubbly Theodore.But their team is under the strict guidance of their human father and confidant David "Dave" Seville, in reality a stage name adopted by Ross himself.Interestingly,the names of the Chipmunks have been borrowed from the first names of the executives of the original record labels, Liberty Records:Theodore Keep, the chief engineer,Alvin Bennett, the President and the founder and owner Simon Waronker.
They were first brought to life in 1950 in Bagdasarian's novelty recording under the banner David Seville and the Chipmunks.But their populariy was unprecedented and although the characters proved to be fictional, a long line of "real" albums and singles were released in their name. A whole lot of Cartoon animations and movies followed suit.Voices of the Trio were performed by Ross himself and though he had attempted a similar experimentation earlier in one of his song projects"The Witch Doctor",the Cipmunks earned hiim two Grammy Awards for engineering.Though the Chipmunks still remain famous as cartoon characters,thet were aired in 1981 on NBC and was soon rated as an animated Christmas Television Special.
