If you are hell bent on having a little extra fun this Christmas, compose your own Silly Christmas Songs and make it a point to get your family together when you sing it aloud.
Though most of these Silly Christmas Songs sound funny and have weird wordings and phrases, they are mostly framed out of Christmas Carols and hymns or mere parodies of the same. Popular carols are distorted and made to sound silly. Caricature of the biblical characters, Santa, Rudolph and Satan constitute the most popular themes for these songs. Many a times, strict teachers, neighbors and family members also feature as the themes in these songs.

But it would be a gross injustice to designate these songs as light hearted and thus devoid of any significance and value. These songs have a deeper historical lineage than many of us can even think of, in the wildest of our dreams. The gypsies and the vagabonds were the first ones who popularized this strain among the ordinary folks. Even illiterate masses of the countryside,
ignorant of the more refined dialects used distorted versions of the Christmas Carols and Hymns and ended up inventing their own versions of the Silly Christmas Songs, which were poles apart from the original ones. Interestingly, most of these apparently Christmas Silly Songs served as a camouflage to the real content of the songs, which often made strong political statements and were more often than not laden with critique of the contemporary society and authority of the ecclesiastical order.
So freak out and have fun cause thoughtful humor is creative and productive.
