12 Days of Christmas History |
The 12-Day of Christmas History is a very interesting one. The Twelve Day celebration starts from the evening of December26 and ends on January 6 with the feast of epiphany.
The Twelve Days of Christmas is also the title of a familiar Christmas carol entitled Twelve Days of Christmas.
It was a catechism song containing surreptitious codes. During the mid 16C to the early 17thC Catholics were forbidden to practice their faith. The song was composed to confer the basic tenets of Christianity to the Catholic infants. The song contains twelve verses each describing a gift offered "by my true love" on one of the twelve days of Christmas.
True Love indicates God. The "me" who receives the presents refers to every baptized person who is part of the Christian Faith.
The 12-day of Christmas history give an account of great feast and merry-making in the middle Ages. During the twelve days social rules were remarkably slack and it was a common sight to see men dressed as women and vice versa. Servants in the family got a better treatment from their masters.
The 12-day of Christmas history interprets the meaning of the Holy Incarnation in our lives. December 26th is celebrated as the Feast of St. Stephens and December 27th as the Feast of St. John the Evangelist. On December 28, takes place the Feast of The Holy Innocents.
