McKenzie Brothers 12 day of Christmas |
The twelve days of Christmas are the auspicious twelve days that fall between 25th of December until January 5th. Twelve Days of Christmas is also the title of a popular English Christmas carol that enumerates a series of grandiose gifts given on each day of the festival. Many parodies of the "Twelve Days of Christmas" have been written, as its simple list of gifts encourage imaginative substitutes. McKenzie Brothers 12 day of Christmas is the most popular among them.
Bob and Doug McKenzie were a pair of fictional Canadian brothers, who hosted "The Great White North", panel show that based upon Canadian stereotypes. Bob is played by Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas plays the role of Doug. On their album, The Great White North they sing their own version of "The Twelve Days of Christmas", which is frequently played on the radio around the holidays in both Canada and the United States.
McKenzie Brothers 12 day of Christmas replaces the first gift with "a beer" then "a beer, in a tree" (awkwardly metered to match the traditional "a partridge in a pear tree"), substituting the other gifts on the list with other stereotypically Canadian items such as 8 comic books, 7 packs of smokes, 6 packs of two-four case of beer with 24 bottles or cans, 5 golden toques, 4 pounds of back bacon, 3 French toasts, 2 turtlenecks and a beer in a tree.
