It is a known fact that Victorian people celebrated the festival of Christmas in a more elaborate way from 1860 onwards. Christmas is the most celebrated and the most popular festival worldwide.
Christmas was at first celebrated in England and later on it got spread to the other parts of the world of which Germany is a part. The Christmas German History is primarily linked to the Christmas tree tradition
St. Boniface plays an important role in the Christian German History, as it was St Boniface who journeyed from England to Germany. In Germany he came across a group of pagans who were worshiping an oak tree. On seeing this sight St. Boniface got furious and cut down the oak tree. After the oak tree got cut, he noticed that from the very root of the oak tree a fir tree had sprung up. St Boniface also succeeded in converting the natives of Germany to Christianity and these baptized people started to worship the fir tree as God's Tree. The fir tree was used as a part of the Christmas celebration and got a place inside the house only in the 16th century. It is Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria who brought the Christmas tree to England from his native land Germany.
The Germans have another name for Christmas, which is ‘Weihnachten'. Miracle plays were performed every year on 24th December to make the Germans aware of the stories related to Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden. In order to represent the forbidden fruit, the trees were decorated with apples. In this way Christmas got its name that is Christmas Eve and also its two colors, which are red and green.
